Hi! My name is Nichola Ludlam-Raine, but you can call me Nic. I’m a UK Specialist Registered Dietitian and I want to say a huge welcome to my blog!
I have a passion for promoting easy to understand nutrition and diet tips and started blogging in 2012 as a way of promoting healthy eating messages in a readable and accessible manner. My aim is to motivate and inspire YOU to lead a healthier and subsequently happier life, one step at a time through my nutrition and fitness related blog posts and healthy recipes.
I promote all foods to be eaten in moderation as a part of a healthy balanced diet and believe that variety is the spice of life. In my opinion there is no such thing as ‘good’ and ‘bad’ foods, just good and bad diets; diets here referring to EVERYTHING that you eat in an entire day, week, month and year!
I promote healthy lifestyles as a way of life, rather than fad/short-term diets and live by the 80:20 rule, where as long as you are eating mainly (80%) healthy nutrient dense foods, it’s ok to indulge for some (20%!) of them time. Life is about enjoyment and balance.
I graduated with a First Class Honours degree in BSc Sport & Exercise Science from Loughborough University in 2007, and I then specialised in nutrition by gaining a Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics (Merit) from Leeds Metropolitan University to become a Registered Dietitian in 2009. Since qualifying, I have achieved my MSc in Health Science (Merit) and I am a certified diabetes educator.
I have a passion for understanding the latest nutritional and behavioural research, and I’m a published author in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics.
On social media I have over 100,000 followers (check out my social media links at the top of the page!) and I am one of the co-founders of The NutriTribe (est. 2020) – supporting over 1,500 students as well as new and more experienced dietitians and nutritionists.
I was voted Best Individual Health Blog in the 2015 UK Blog Awards and came runner up for the ‘Nutrition Writer/Broadcaster of the Year Award’ at the Nutrition and Health Live Conference.
I feature regularly on BBC Breakfast T.V, and have appeared on CBBC, ITV’s Tonight Show (and again in 2018 and 2023) as well as BBC One’s Rip Off Britain and Channel 4. I also work behind the scenes as a Consultant Dietitian for various productions including ITV’s Save Money Good Health.
I regularly provide quotes to the media and amongst others have featured in the Mail Online, Sunday Express, The Sun, Healthy Magazine, Women and Home Magazine, Sainsbury’s Magazine, Women’s Running Magazine, Essentials Magazine, Fitness First, The Mirror Online, Stylist Magazine, the Independent and Business Insider.
I have collaborated previously with the Sorted Food YouTube Channel as well as Go Compare and have been quoted several times in Nell McAndew’s Guide to Running book (she’s a fellow Leeds Lass!).
Please read my disclaimer page for information about brand collaborations.
I specialise in Bariatric Surgery, Diabesity (Diabetes & Weight Loss) and Maternal Obesity and work both privately and for the NHS. I am passionate about behaviour change and I have completed the Behaviour Change Training course; I use these skills regularly in practice.
I have previously worked as a Lifestyle Leader for MoreLife (a children’s weight management club), as well as a Road-Show Wellbeing Adviser, involving helping employees to achieve a healthier lifestyle. I give regular motivational healthy eating talks and have spoken at various in person events.
I am passionate about exercise and I am a qualified Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer; I gained my certification with NASM in 2017. I also hold my pre and post natal certification as well.
You can sign up to my newsletter [here] and can read more about my career and blogging background [here].
Thank you for reading, I really hope that this website helps you!
And remember.. “It’s not about diets.. it’s about a way of life”
