Healthy Avocado Chocolate Mousse

Healthy Avocado Chocolate Mousse

If you’re looking for a healthy chocolate mousse recipe that tastes AMAZING (and is vegan too!) then you’ve come to the right place!

This recipe is so simple to make as it uses just FOUR ingredients (plus 1 optional extra!). And don’t let the secret ingredient (avocado!!) put you off as you really cannot taste that it’s there. This chocolate mousse is packed with healthy fats and vitamin E which will help to nourish you from the inside out!

To make this recipe all you will need is a food processor (I do wonder though if a hand blender would also work!). Check out my Healthy Kitchen Gadgets blog post for more information :).

Do let me know if you make this recipe too!

Avocado Chocolate Mousse

Ingredients

  • 1 very ripe avocado
  • 1 tbsp warm water - optional
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup (vegan option) or honey
  • 1 tsp cinnamon or vanilla essence
  • OPTIONAL: small ripe banana
  • TOPPINGS: Almond slices, desiccated coconut, yoghurt and/or berries

Instructions

  1. De-stone the avocado & scoop out the flesh into your food processor. Blend until creamy, scraping down the sides as needed. Add a tbsp of warm water to help it blend if needed.
  2. Add in the cocoa, cinnamon/vanilla and honey/maple syrup and blend until combined. Add the optional banana if you're using it and blend again.
  3. Serve on its own (between 2 people) or with your favourite toppings (mine are blueberries, yoghurt, flaked almonds & desiccated coconut!) or chill in the fridge for 60 minutes to allow it to firm up first. Enjoy!

This is just amazing! So yummy! My food processor is broken but avocado was very ripe so easy to mix by hand. Added some cocao nibs for crunch and topped with frozen raspberries and coconut. Have a feeling this will be a regular treat!! Thanks Nics Nutrition 🙂

I made this mousse last night. I don’t have a food processor (yet, going to invest!) so I just mashed/mixed the avocado really well with a spoon, it probably wasn’t as smooth but it still tasted really good! I also used golden syrup instead of honey because I didn’t have any honey in (extra treat!) I topped the mousse with a few blueberries. Thanks for the recipe Nic, great when you need a chocolate fix! 🙂

Aw thank you for your lovely comment! You have to get a food processor though! It’s so useful and only around £20! xx

Hi Nic, I made this pudding and it was delicious! I mixed it up a little bit and tried instead I used mashed banana and water (will be trying the avocado version next though!) cacao powder, honey, 1tbsp of peanut butter and raw almonds – blended it all in a processor with some chocolate whey protein powder and topped it cinnamon and chopped almonds 🙂 I only remembered to take a photo though after I’d eaten it! Will send one through next time.

How much cacao powder did you use Heidi? I am never sure whether to substitute it 1:1 for cocoa powder as it seems so much stronger.. but tonight I tried making this with 1 tablespoon of cacao and it didn’t taste chocolatey at all 🙁

I had two avocados so I doubled the recipe and there was way too much cocoa! It was bitter and awful. I had to add in half a banana (which I hadn’t wanted to) and lots more honey to try and mellow it out. I would recommend using half the cocoa then taste testing before adding anymore 🙂

Thanks for the tip! I suppose it depends on the size of your avocados 🙂 xx
