How To Drink More Water!

Did you know that almost 60% of our bodies are made of water?

As a result, staying hydrated is one of the easiest and most beneficial things you can do for your body. Drinking enough water boosts your energy, keeps your skin in good condition and may help to prevent headaches, constipation, and UTIs (cystitis).

Drinking enough fluid can also help to keep hunger at bay if you find yourself grazing between meals. Often, the body can confuse hunger and thirst signals. So, the next time you’re hungry, try a glass of water first to be sure you don’t just need to drink more!

Aim for at least 6-8 200ml glasses or 1.4-1.6 litres of fluids every day. However, these are only estimations and you will need to drink more if you are exercising/ it’s hot outside, i.e. if you sweat more.

I must confess that I’m not a great drinker of water (on its own) which is why I like to remain hydrated in more flavoursome ways. If you’re like me, I hope you find these tips helpful!

β˜•οΈ Go HOT – While tea and coffee can have a modest diuretic effect, there is always a net fluid gain due to the water that you consume with it. Herbal teas such as fruit, peppermint and chamomile contain no caffeine and are perfect for a hot drink before bed. Soups count too!

πŸ’§ Carry a bottle of water with you – Keep a bottle of water in your bag or at your desk while you’re working. It will serve as a reminder to drink before becoming too thirsty. Bottles with a time mark can do the trick too! I personally like to add a little bit of no added sugar squash, too.

πŸ“ Infuse water with fruit – Strawberry, basil and cucumber, as well as lemon, mint and cucumber are two of my favourite fruit-based infusion combos! You can also add fruit-based ice cubes to the water to make it tastier!

πŸ₯€ Add some bubbles – Try sparkling water for a change. When I go out to lunch, I always order sparkling water with lemon slices or some sugar free lemonade/ cola if I feel like it!
